Mr. Thompson's Algebra 1
(Thompson - alg.1)

Course Description: This course is intended for students who have completed a pre-algebra course and have studied some geometry and some applications of math. In it you will do significant work on statistics, probability, applications, and work with calculators. Applications will be used to develop and exemplify the algebra of equations and inequalities. Models for the four arithmetic operations will be studied and extended to expressions involving variables. Rates of change and graphing of lines will be emphasized. The study of parabolas and exponential growth will arise from looking at current applications in science and personal finance. Systems, polynomials, and square roots will be related to geometry and are motivated by applications.
